The authors of this site are, or were, both teachers at Billings Senior High School in Billings, Montana.

Vince Long taught Technology Education, computer programming, computer-aided drafting, and was the chairman of the Technology Education department.  He has a B.A. in Industrial Arts from California State-Long Beach (1986), an M.Ed in Educational Technology from Montana State University, Billings (2000), and has National Board Certified in Early Adolescence through Young Adulthood, Career and Technical Education (2002).  He retired from teaching in 2012.

Prior to that he spent 3 years in the U.S. Army and 12 years in California working in the petrochemical design and construction industry. He is an old time radio show enthusiast, enjoys working on old Volvos, baking artisan breads, running, and developing web-based software on his site www.codecooker.com.

Steve Gardiner earned a B.S. in English education from Chadron State College (Nebraska) in 1977, an M.Ed. in Educational Technology from Montana State University-Billings in 2000, and an Ed.D. in Teacher Leadership from Walden University in 2012.  He has been teaching high school English and journalism for 35 years in Wyoming, Montana, and Peru.  He has served for 7 years on the English/Language Arts committee with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in Washington, DC and is currently a member of the Certification Council for NBPTS.  He earned National Board Certification in 2002 in Adolescent and Young Adult/English Language Arts and irenewed his certification in 2012

Gardiner has published over 500 articles in newspapers and magazines as well as four books, including Building Student Literacy Through Sustained Silent Reading (2005, ASCD). He has been on mountain climbing expeditions to Alaska, the Andes, the Alps, Greenland and Mt. Everest and has finished both the New York City Marathon and the Boston Marathon.
